My name is Julia Essex, and I am an educational technologist and software developer.
I work for the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch, where I've worked since 2001. I work with both medical student education and resident training, as well as academic administration. Basically, I do a little of everything and try to use my talents and skills to improve our programs and increase our ability to cope with ever-tightening budgets. I've helped write federal grants and manage them and I help lead our disaster planning initiative. I oversee our advancement initiative and supervise our academic resources team.
I have a bachelor's degree from the Georgetown University School of Business and a master's degree from the University of Houston at Clear Lake's School of Education. I got my start in development by completing a program at The George Washington University, and have improved and expanded my skills over the years through participation in the Houston Dot Net Users Group, the Austin .NET User Group (especially their annual Code Camps), lots of reading and studying on my own, and other conferences and courses. While writing software is my big love, I also enjoy applying systems thinking to education administration and strategic planning.
If you'd like to talk, please track me down at work.
